First, a Sports Update...

Here's my two-cents on the playoff games for both the Raptors and the Leafs.

Raptors - wow, who could've expected that they'll win tonight's game? Unfortunately, due to studying, I wasn't able to catch the game, but apparently, it's good and big enough to make it as a "breaking news" on 680 News. My thoughts of game 5? All I can say is I wish the Raptors well; I would be surprised to see them win, seeing how Detroit has home court advantage.

Leafs - What's with the Leafs and the Isles? This is the most interesting series I've seen ever, yet it's also one of the dirtiest series I've ever seen the Leafs played. Apparently, according to Sportsnet, the Leafs/Islanders series racked up 371 penalty minutes in total. That's more than double the amount racked up by the Bruins/Canadiens... I can't believe Corson got suspended for kicking last night... I mean, Cairns was the one trying to knock the lights out of Corson, banging his helmet against Corson's unprotected head. Cairns also threw a couple of mean punches right in Corson's face. This is rough man. I've noticed Domi has kept his cool throughout most of the series, but last night really really ticked him off. GO LEAFS GO. I think they're capable of kicking the Isles butts.

I also can't believe the people in Long Island booed our Canadian anthem... again. Doesn't the word disrespect mean anything to them? Apparently not. Thank goodness we have home ice advantage. Still, don't the fans in New York realize their beloved injured captain is one of our Team Canada heros? I remember CBC interviewing some dude on the Islanders that was also a Toronto Native. Man, sometimes I think people can be so ignorant. Speaking of which, I remember the flag incident for the women's hockey final, Team USA vs. Team Canada. Apparently, Team USA had our flag spread out on their locker room floor, and were stomping on it. *sigh* No respect man.

All right, enough about sports and patriotism (sp?) at this time. Will update you on my regular life soon ;)

For all my friends and fellow bloggers, enjoy.... :)

and here goes my Sunday...

...spent studying. I hate probabilities and what not. Distributions suck too. I'll be glad when Wednesday arrives. No more Poisson Distribution, Normal Distributions, etc. Type I Error and Type II Error my butt.... :P

I decided to stop listening to music from now 'til Wednesday. I don't want to risk having the same experiences I've had with past tests. What kind? Well, in OAC, I was doing the Calculus test. Trying to figure out what a derivative of something was, all the sudden, I hear... "Man, I feel like a Woman!" (remember Shania Twain?) At that time, I still enjoyed listening to this certain ghetto radio station, and that song was overplayed. That was one memorable experience. Haha. Another experience was earlier this school year; trying hard to concentrate on this awful stats test (which I did poorly on), Utada Hikaru's Automatic was stuck in my head. NO MORE MUSIC FOR ME!!!!!

There's this one song that I really like at this time; it's a Chinese, fobby song. CLICK HERE It's sung by many Chinese singers, and I find the song really meaningful. Of course, you gotta understand Chinese... hehe, but the English title is "Getting Through Winter Together" Let's see.... Cecilia Cheung (Cheung Pak Jee), Hacken Lee (Lee Hack Ken), Leslie Cheung (Cheung Kwok Wing), and many more are on it. I just like the way the song was arranged. Haha... two thumbs up for Holly. What do you think of the song?

Boo, Leafs lost. I find it hilarious the way the game ended. The scruffle Domi had with an Islander was funny. My dad and I were watching them "talk" their way into their fight. (They were both waiting for the puck to drop, and I guess the Isle dude was trying to get Domi mad...and it worked). Normally, I don't like Corson that much, but man, he was pounded by the Cairns (Islander) BAD. With his helmet off, he got punched 5 or 6 times before he fell. :P I don't like the Isles.

Anyhoo, time for bed... :(

There goes Saturday...

Yep, my Saturday just came and went by quickly. Besides studying for stats, my day wasn't thrilling - thank goodness there were NHL and NBA games all throughout the day to keep me sane. Man, the Detroit/Vancouver game was really fast and exciting - too bad the Canucks couldn't make it off to the second round; I was hoping they would, instead of the Red Wings. Onto NBA, I'm surprised the Raptors managed to get to game 4 of this round... they won tonight, and they won by a large margin too. Interesting.

Yay, I've got ONE out of four parts of my stats material covered. Yay. I actually feel productive, despite having to nap for 3 hours today, wasting 2 hours travelling back and forth from home to downtown (for tutoring), and doing absolutely nothing this morning. Yay! Lyds, notice how we're being more and more productive recently at the same pace...? Hee hee - the only thing is, I can't pull those crazy all nighters or those early morning study sessions like you do. Not only do I love sleeping, I desparately need it. Otherwise, I can't function. Period.

Lately, I've been bored, and decided to type in my name under google.com. I can't believe what search results came up - most of them were hilarious. Only 3 out of the couple tens of thousands searches actually relates to me. The first one was for ASUT, where the commerce bulletin announced that this girl and I got our positions as Junior Reps for ASUT, the other for another UT event, and lastly, from Justin's page. Here were some of the search results that I found interesting:
- a Christmas porcelain doll.... interesting name... :P
- another Christmas related item - it's an ornament with a Santa Claus on it...
- Ho Ho Ho in the Hee-Hee-Heat - it's a Holly Cole song....
- now, THIS is surprising.... apparently, this lady named her dog w/ the same name as mine's and it had puppies.... O_o
- an artist and a chemist *shiver*...

Interesting... anyhoo, time for me to go to bed - nite!

4.26.2002

dang.... I screwed up on the previous post.... and I can't delete the bad one :P

Now for a post that's NOT Related to Hockey...

Yes, I realized how much I blabbed about the hockey game in the post below... so for you hockey fans out there, feel free to read my hockey filled entry down below... Hehe....

As I mentioned before, I have this craving for cake right now.... for a good dessert - Carol from UT would know, as I was complaining to her.... so I decided to call Karen LS (KLS) to see if she was interested. However, we ended up talking on the phone for more than an hour and a half. I'm not much of a phone person, so I considered that a very very long telephone conversation :) It was very fun-filled, as we were moaning about exams, playing "Mary had a Little Lamb" on the keypad, and talking about everything.... (hi, KLS!!!!) At one point, we were talking about "six-degrees of separation" and I decided to look for the page kls was talking about.... I got bored and entered her (full) name on google.com - apparently, two pages of search results came up - AND ALL OF THE searches were relatives of her or herself. You must understand, my friend has a very unique last name.... hence the need for KLS as an alias. :)

The topic of "six-degrees of separation" brings me to another topic. Me. Actually, it's moreso about the comment my friends made after our macro exam. Originally, we were gonna do dim sum after the exam, but I was REALLY exhausted. In fact, I'm pretty tired as I'm typing now, but I really want to enjoy my break and NOT spend it by sleeping. Anyway, back to the original point. They were commenting how I was "Miss Popular", as I bumped into a lot of people after the exam, and as a result, I had to catch up with them for a couple of times as they were walking slowly ahead of me. I did some thinking after we departed off to our separate ways... coming back to the same old conclusion - I doknow ofa lot of people...more than I can count; however, when it comes down to really knowing people, I know only a small handful. I think I inherited my mom's social characteristics... Anyhoo, just my thoughts earlier this day.....

Wow, this Leafs game is filled with a lot of scruffles.... I've seen enough fights for the past 15 minutes..... In the last two minutes of the game alone, there's been three fights already.... Domi is in the penalty box... :)

As I mentioned before, I did a lot of blog catching up today... and I also did some AA catching up, meaning "stalking", as Lyds would call it on some people's pages and simply surfing thru AA pages randomly. Going on AA makes me realize how small this world is. I haven't logged onto AA in ages... not that it's that important to me; I find AA too superficial for me - I also find it pathetic for people to message me, begging me to give them my AA member points and vote them as the "member of the week"... pathetic AA was never my thing - never was, never is, and never will be.

Before I leave -- a couple of "messages" I have to respond to: Loretta (aka Butta) - Thanks for coming by! How are you doing? I'm surprised someone actually know what the Macau cookies are.... hee heeMatt M - I just read your blog today! (I haven't been really keeping up with people's blogs until today...) I didn't know 20 was an illegal number in volleyball!!!! :( I want to play vball.... regularly... know if I can get involved? wow, you talked to me a lot in your blog... even after you said you were gonna stop... hehe. I just went to Kanichiwa after my exam on Wednesday! I love their California rolls.... *drool* wow... you're the second person that said my procrastination soulmate and I are very alike.... the first person that said that, I believe, is Jon; who else do you like (singer wise)?? lyds - study hard! you can do it! if I got through this week, you could get through this weekend! After next Wednesday, we must go play!

Otherwise, to everyone else, please feel free to leave me a message either through email, icq, aol, or in my guestbook :) I wonder who was my 1000th hit... hehehe.

Hockey Blog!

Three down, One to go! However, I've barely started studying for the last one. But that's okay. At least I have four more days to study, unlike the previous two exams where I barely had more than a day to study for each.

I read a lot of blogs today during my day of rest.... I know, I don't have a life. After the macro exam, everyone went out for lunch or shopping, but I decided to go home and be a bum. (and I did, since I needed a break before teaching piano and what not) However, I'm dying for dessert right now. Speaking of now, the Leafs just scored! --> 6-2 Lead! Haha - Hoglund claimed the sixth goal, albeit everyone was shooting the puck. The first period was hilarious - Corson go into a fight, which dragged in Domi and everyone else - including Osgood from the Islanders. Then 3 Leafs (Domi, Corson and some other dude) were in the penalty box at the same time while two Islanders were in the other box. Luckily, Mark Parrish got a slashing penalty and the NY Islander powerplay ended. Quite a hilarious game, although the beginning was nerve-wrecking, 'cause Quinn accidently placed Reinberg instead of Reichel on the starting line up, which was different from what he wrote on the line up sheet for the refs. (Reinberg is the one with the injury too!). Quite a game. Gald I stayed home and watched part of it.

While I saved this blog, Domi got into a fight with a couple of Leafs.... this game is hilarious - apparently Webb from the Islanders is being a jerk and bodychecked everyone..... hehehehe --> McCabe started the fight but Domi got involved. I swear, this game is one of the most exciting games I've ever seen - better than the Montreal/Boston game that was on yesterday.

Speaking of the Montreal/Boston game - some guy got injured on the Canadiens, caused by some stupid player from Boston. Apparently, the Boston dude was given a one game suspension. ONLY. Why do I say only? Well, considering the Montreal dude is still suffering from his concussion with a broken nose and what not, one suspension is nothing. I mean, last year, Domi got a EIGHT game suspension for elbowing Scott Neidermayer (sp?) from the New Jersey Devils.... and Neidermayer FAKED IT! :P This is ridiculous. :P Dad and I were pretty pissed. (oooh, I'm looking at Domi right now on TV.... ahhhhh heeheehee)

I think I'm going to start a new post about other things NOT related to hockey..... :P

4.25.2002

GAAAAAH....

11 and a half more hours to go 'til I finish Macroeconomics.... :P

Been studying all day. Thank goodness the Raptors and the Leafs weren't playing tonight. Otherwise, I think I would've been distracted.

Speaking of which, I hope both teams smarten up. :) Go LEAFS go!

Okay bedtime. I've been quite out of it today... hehe Sabrina would know ;)

Breaktime

Well, I had a long day today; woke up at 7am, wrote an exam, took a 2 hour break (trust me, after a 2 hour exam, I'm dead beat - I can't understand how my friend could go on doing TWO exams in a day, one from 9-11 and another from 2-4), then studied for 4 hours, got tutored from some guy for 2 hours and came home. I was totally exhausted and didn't want to study AT ALL. After a prolonged break (Law and Order kept me from studying hahaha!), I finally started studying. I've covered a lot up, surprisingly, and am on a break, as my stomach is desparately calling me for some food. I'm actually eating an almond cookie from Macau. It's really good - if you've got relatives goin' to HK, tell them to get you some if they ever go by Macau. Good cookies.

Anyhoo, I was sad to hear about the booing incident in NY last night. I knew of the same incident in Detroit with the Raps, but it didn't bug me too much. I guess it bugged me... especially in light of the recent deaths of the Canadian soldiers; however, when I heard of similar incidents that happened with the American anthem in Vancouver and Montreal, I was also disgusted. I thought us Canadians would have the decency and "class" to NOT get back at the Americans. I guess I was wrong. Nonetheless, it is stirring things up and I'm not cool with it. But then, what am I gonna do about it in the meantime?

Anyhoo, that's my rant for the day. :) Must return to studying. Booooo. Gaaaaaaaaah. *sigh*

A Mix of Emotions

15 and a half hours to go. These past few days have been full of ups and downs in emotions and mood swings. On one hand, I feel that I'm ready for the exam(s), on the other hand, I feel as if I'm going to go and fail the exam. At one point in time, I was going to put a journal entry about Holly's word of the day - I receive daily emails from the webster's dictionary for kids, which gives you a 'word for the day'. The spelling of the word was what caught my eye at first, but the word's meaning attracted me to read through that email thoroughly. That word is:

lackadaisical (lak-uh-DAY-zih-kul) - adj., lacking spirit or enthusiasm : languid, listless

Honestly, that was exactly how I was feeling up 'til today. Those who know me know I am not too fond of school. But as I was doing some thinking today, I remembered the bible study we had a few weeks ago in Josiah (fellowship) on the book of Ephesians, more specifically from 5:22-6:9; one verse particuarly stood out to me: serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men... Eph. 6:7. Although I am not a slave to school, I felt that God has put me here at school for a reason, whatever the reason may be. I guess with God, with His plan, I'll get through this exam period somehow. Despite the dreadful thoughts of exams and studying, I guess with an upright and whole heart, things do look brighter. I believe God will guide me through. I will not be lackadaisical... I'll try my best and get through with Him.

I am very slowly going crazy........

I need psychiatric help. :P only 20 more hours to go 'til I get over with eco200....

4.21.2002

FYI...

Just a bunch of observations I've made for the past few days that are probably useless, but interesting enough to share.

~~~
What's so special about this pen?
Why, yes, it does say www.andersen.com - I've got three of those pens. Was joking with my dad earlier today about keeping one of these pens as a memorabillia of some sort, 'cause it may be worth a lot some day :) Now that Andersen (Canada) is bought by Deloitte & Touche, the pen's value has probably gone up by...oh, a few cents? Har har. Just thought it was funny, albeit the Enron-Andersen fiasco isn't as hot and touchy now as it was a few months ago. But hey, the pens write well and look pretty. I wonder if they have any stock left?
~~~

Abercrombie and Fitch has gotten quite popular here in Toronto for the past few years. I think the fad started when Old Navy was popular up here... Anyway, I was reading an article on cnn.com, discussing how A&F got themselves in hot water with Asians.... how?

Asian people were protesting outside an A&F store in San Francisco. A&F has decided to recall all its "Asian wear" line; however, those t-shirts are right now on eBay, at an auction price of $200. Interesting? I found it amusing...

~~~
Well, that's all for now - I need sleep and peace. I'm happy that exams are approaching because I can finally get over with them, but really nervous about them at the same time. I guess I gotta work hard, pray hard too :)
4.20.2002
Ooooh, look who had an Assist today...
.... DOMI! :) Yay for him. (and yay for the Leafs 'cause we won again... so we lead the series 2-0!) Apparently, the Star says after he becomes a free agent, he may possibly be the highest paid enforcer in the history of the NHL. Hee hee. Seeing that picture of him below makes me smile :)
Anyway, I was browing thru cnn.com last night looking at some articles. I realized how they lacked coverage of the deaths of the four Canadian soldiers. Then it hit me that they didn't really have a "breaking news" notification (in which I receive about 2 'breaking news' emails from CNN on a daily basis) on the deaths of the soldiers in Afghanistan, like they usually would for any sort of "major" news (which includes the arrest of Robert Blake, related to the shooting of his wife...). It saddens me how they had such a big coverage for this Robert Blake dude but failed to mention anything about this accident. I'm not being patriotic or anything, but it just hit me last night how cnn.com is really pro-American, and is very biased. I compared the cbc.ca site with cnn.com; CBC has coverage - not excessive, but informative on this accident whereas CNN failed to mention the accident at all; I just watched the BBC news and there they had some coverage as well about this American-caused accident. I guess what sparked up this CNN issue thing was a comparison, done by the Chinese current events program, of the CNN and BBC stations and their coverage of the Middle East situation. The Chinese station commented how BBC had a more neutral stand in reporting the situation. I don't know.... I guess it just upsets me how American media can be so oblivious so events that don't affect them.
That's my two cents for now. Must get some studying done... GAAAAAAAAH.
4.19.2002
TAKE THAT!
This photo was found in the first page of the sports section in the Toronto Star and it took up half a page. So much for Hoglund being "demoted" to Tie Domi's line. :P
Must study now :) Will update later.
Found out Something 'bout Me!
I think I have photographic memory.... either that, or I am simply a pro in matching names to faces. Here goes the story: Last night after tutoring, I was waiting for the Wellesley bus at Harbord and St. George. The bus took forever to come. There was this girl sitting next to me... and I thought to myself, "hmmm, she looks really familiar.... she looks like this girl I knew of eons ago..." (when I say eons, I mean A LONG TIME ago... back in gr. 4 or 5?) Anyhoo, we started talking all the sudden, since we were both bored from waiting for the bus. We talked about upcoming exams. Fun. At the same time, I was wondering if I should just ask her what her name was. Similar to the incident when Lyds and I met (read my March 24, 2002 blog entry), I couldn't resist... and asked:
me: excuse me, I know this may freak you out, but is your name Elizabeth?
her: in a very very surprised toneyeah.....
and before she could say anything...
me: and is your last name Lee?
her: kinda freaked out yeah... how did you know?! this IS wierd! but flattering... really flattering
Turns out she IS the girl I met in gr. 4 in this arts adventure camp back in the ghettos of Scarborough. It was only a two week camp, yet, I managed to remember her name for the last 10 years, without bumping into her or seeing her anytime in between. Either my memory is really good, or I'm just a freak. Too bad my memory is good only for certain things - it does have exceptions, and sadly, memorizing academic related things are one of the exceptions.
Well well well..... the first game for the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the Leafs finished two hours ago... AND THE LEAFS WIN 3-1!!!!! and guess what? MY Domi (yes, mine... hee hee) scored the turnaround goal!!! Before he scored, the score was tied at 1-1, and he bumped the score up to 2-1 Leafs! Yay!!!!!
What ticked me off today was the Sports page for the Toronto Star, the article about Hogland. "MOVING DOWN: Tonight, Jonas Hoglund may find himself playing with Tie Domi instead of Leafs star Mats Sundin." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? What's wrong with Tie Domi? I mean, Mats sucked pretty much 'til he smartened up THIS year. :P So I'm pissed. Besides, TORONTO STAR, look who's plastering their sports section on their webpage about Domi's Goal....?
Nonetheless, LEAFS RULE :) If they see Lord Stanley this year, I'm buying myself a Leafs Jersey. Maybe I'll get Jersey #28 too :)
It's been a long day for me. I left home at around 10:45 am this morning and didn't return 'til 11:30 pm tonight. Long long day, with endless studying and tutoring. Luckily, I get to have some studying time tomorrow, so yay for me!!! Man, I'm starting to get messages about getting together with people this weekend and meeting up with coop friends before they go back to school for the summer..... LISTEN WATERLOO AND LAURIER PEOPLE (and other fortunate people who are done exams!) - I AM NOT DONE MY EXAMS!, in fact, I haven't even started. So.... please be sympathetic to me.... hee hee and don't tempt me into going out and what not! Thank you :)
Good day for now :)
I Really Should be Studying
...but I decided to come upstairs to my room and change into summer wear (I was still in my PJs). Then procrastination kicks in. So here I am, surfing the net, and this article catches my eye. I am really starting to like msn.com; or maybe it's espn.com that I like... since all the sports articles msn.com posts are linked to the espn.com site. Anyhow, with the injury bug hitting the Leafs at this time (just right before the playoffs), it's cool how espn.com posted to article. I mean, when Cujo was out back in February, everyone was like "oh no, we can say goodbye to Lord Stanley, blah blah blah"... but one guy surprised us all. Corey Schwab. We did pretty well without Cujo - and Schwab proved to us that he was capable of his job. It's funny how we acquired Tom Barasso as a back up for Schwab... and he got the same injury Cujo had during the last game of the regular season - Hee hee :) Anyway, I enjoyed the article, so for those of you Leaf fans, check it out - even if you think Schwab sucks. Nonetheless, I like that dude. However, good 'ole Tie is still my favourite :) (I'm still pissed that I missed this breakaway - :P...)
Hope you laugh as hard as I did... :)
The Attack of the...
LADYBUGS!!!! Well, I only saw ONE today, but still; that one little ladybug still signals the return of those evil ladybugs. (There was an invasion of ladybugs in Toronto last summer....) Speaking of summer - it's +30C today in Toronto! It's crazy how the temperature fluctuates so strangely. Two weeks ago, we were freezing our butts off at 1C, with snow falling down as if it was November. Now, it's practically summer! Although I was forced to study, I managed to take an hour to study outside on my porch in the backyard - quite relaxing, since I've got the shades and what not. Still, studying ruins everything.
My exam is in a week and I have only gotten half of the material somewhat covered. Don't know it full well, but... AAAAAHHHHHHH. I know my friends in Waterloo & Laurier are almost finished (some started the holidays last week!) Meanwhile, I'm rotting here, studying Micro and Macro, Accounting.... :P I haven't even started for Stats. NOOOOOOOO. Enough babbling about studying for now. It's making me depressed.
I decided I needed to get out of the house today, so I called Ian up to go to Montana's to watch the Raptors' game. Everything was good.... everything except the last two quarters of the game. They were leading up 'til the 3rd quarter and slumped from that point onward. *sigh* Indiana's win doesn't help the situation either. Boo. Anyhoo, we stuffed ourselves full (again - everytime I go to Montana's I come out feeling REALLY full). It's funny how msn.com had this article about overpaid NBA players today. Although none of the Raptors topped the list, two of them were nominated - Montross and Yogi (Michael Stewart). Can't believe Yogi is paid $6M (US) just to sit around and do nothing. I mean, Tie Domi only gets roughly $1M per year and he fights hard for the Leafs. But then, I guess you can't really compare the salaries of the NBA players and NHL players....
I'm addicted to a new game - Monopoly.... on the Palm. :) That game is really addictive. I find that for the past 10+ years I've been playing the board game, I haven't really played according to the rules. Anyhow, the game on the Palm is awesome. I lost terribly for the first two games, but managed to win on the third game! I owned all the light blue (Oriental, Vermont, Connecticut Ave.) properties, Park Place and Boardwalk, as well as Baltic and Mediterranean Ave. :) (plus I built lots of houses and hotels on each property...). Started out with $1500 and ended up with $6000. WOO HOO :) only with a Palm can you get a thrill of winning in Monopoly! I remember this other version of Monopoly I used to play on the computer - it's a Chinese Version and it's hilarious. Too bad I couldn't really read Chinese then... (not that I can read a lot now); but still, that game had lots of fun - for community chess/chance, you could play other games - such as gambling, catching falling coins from the sky, etc.
Must sleep now. I am determined to get some decent studying done tomorrow. Adios!
Blanked Out
I've been studying for the past two hours and my mind has gone blank. However, I'd like to mention I added two new links to my blog - the hunger site and the bible site.
The Hunger Site is a UN organized thing; if you go to the page, you can click to donate food to people in third world countries.
The Bible Site is similar to the hunger site (I don't know who organized this thing), where you click an icon to donate bibles to persecuted Christians in the world, esp. in Saudi Arabia and other countries.
I just thought, if I could check out everyone's blogs and what not everyday, why shouldn't I be able to click away to benefit others by going to sites similar to the above two? So I hope you'll do the same too.
That's all for now folks. Must get up early to study again. Ooooh, so fun :P/
I really really really really really really really hate ROSI.
:P
it's been an hour and i'm still in front of the stupid computer. I've been kicked out of ROSI a gazillion times and it took me 20 minutes just to log on for the first time. Of course, by then, VIC120 was already full. I was able to sign up for ECO328, but they kicked me out after my confirmatino, so I'm tryin to see if I DO have the course registered or not now. I HATE ROSI.... (*!@&!!!!
It just kicked me out again.
Stupid Summer School...
...Registration. It's now 5:43 am and I'm still half asleep. Yet, I have no choice but to wait and get ready to sign up online for summer school. My neighbour just left for work. I never knew people went to work at 5:45 in the morning. That's crazy. I'm still half dazed, as I can't type my URLs completely and correctly. Unlike the usual 70-something people that are online, my icq list only shows that 26 people are online. (I'm amazed by how many "ONLINE" online people there are!)
Oh, I can't wait 'til I go back to sleep!
4.14.2002
It has been a long day...
...and I'm very tired. Summer School registration starts tomorrow morning at 6 am as well, so I gotta get up early to fight with a gazillion other UT students. Yay. I hate ROSI (it's the student web service where we go to register for courses online).
Woke up early for worship practice and didn't come home 'til 10:45 pm. I had to go downtown for some tutorial sessions (both for mic and mac -ro economics), and ended up going to this restaurant for dinner with parents. My brain is fried. I guess I should be grateful that I have a week off to study, but at the same time, knowing a few of my friends are already on their summer holidays makes me envious ;) I'll survive. Hopefully.
I remember when I first started becoming a net junkie, I would sign up for numerous emails and what not. Well, I got this email today from keromail.com today, talking about some account I signed up for eons ago. I don't even remember the email address!!! I also remember signing up for various email accounts to avoid a certain someone for a while.... Hahaha. Speaking of signing up for email accounts and what not, I've been wanting to have my own domain. However, I'm still contemplating, 'cause I'm not really sure if I really wanna spend $5 (US) / month for a website that I may possibly leave idle for months. Nonetheless, it's still fun trying to think of a domain name. I need suggestions!!!!!!! Lyds? Jon? Waiki? Peeps? GIVE ME IDEAS!!!!! Here are the ones I've thought of up 'til now:
- hollyho.com (ooooh, original =P)
- hollyholz.com
- keroholz.com
(you can see I haven't really put THAT much thought into making a creative name.... I mean, Waiki asked me a week earlier to help him think of a new domain name and all I could give him was "boxit.com".... I know, I'm so creative....)
All righty, I'm off for now. I'll be here to entertain you tomorrow =) 'til then, take care!
MTV
Had a worship practice today, and was playing the piano while everyone was taking a short break - I had this song stuck in my head and I started to play it. All the sudden, Matt's like "Hey, it's the song from the Music Video!!!"... and we were raving how good the MTV is. Apparently, I've been told that it's a trend for Koreans to make their music videos into mini-movies. Since I don't have much for you to read today, you might as well check it out too! Here's the URL... mind you, it's a very sentimental MTV. :) enjoy!
The Korean Music Video
I'm Too...
.... lazy, busy, full, and tired to blog today. Instead, I'll leave you guys with a funny story Tina sent me yesterday. Hope it makes you laugh! :)
A Haircut
One day a florist went to his neighborhood barbershop for a haircut. When he goes to pay the barber, the barber replies: "I am sorry, I cannot accept money from you. As a community service, each day I cut the hair of my first twelve customers for free." The florist happily leaves the shop. The next morning the barber finds a thank you card and a dozen roses waiting at his door.
The next day a policeman goes to the same barbershop for a haircut. When he goes to pay the barber, the barber replies: "I am sorry, I cannot accept money from you. As a community service, each day I cut the hair of my first twelve customers for free." The policeman happily leaves the shop. The next morning the barber finds a thank you card and a dozen donuts waiting at his door.
On the third day, a Chinese guy goes to the barbershop for a haircut. When he goes to pay the barber, and the barber again replies: "I am sorry, I cannot accept money from you. As a community service, each day I cut the hair of my first twelve customers for free." The Chinese guy is, of course, very happy and leaves the shop.
Can you guess what the barber found at his door the next morning?
A dozen Chinese people waiting for a free haircut. ;)
Girls Nite Out...
Yep, tonight for fellowship was girls'/guys' nite out. Ian, Jon -- what did you guys do? As for Lilly, Myles, and I, we had fun laughing and eating at Pickle Barrel (and getting ourselves VERY full) and making bath salts and stuff. Too bad we couldn't make those bath bombs. ;) Haha - me and my violent behaviour. We ended our girls nite out by playing around with that funky electronic piano in the sunday school room - I've never heard Vivaldi's Four Seasons played in such a funky and hip hop style (the song was programmed in the piano).
My day went by rather quickly. I studied at Second Cup, taught piano, and that's about it. I wish I got more studying done.
Time is running out -- I realize how close we're inching to exams.... help me.
As for now, I'm gonna go to bed early :)
Life is a Miracle
Found the link to the movie I was referring to below. However, it's in Chinese....
I like the theme to the movie though - the scariest thing in life is not death, but hopelessness. life's best miracle is when you find hope through pain.
No More Mandarin!!
Yes, I'm done and through with Mandarin at UT! Of course, I still have the third level course to complete, but I'm not gonna take it. At least I'm not gonna take it as a credit; otherwise, my average will drop even further.
I've never tried watching an entire movie on my computer. I borrowed this VCD and it's a Chinese evangelical film, Life is a Miracle. I've never been so teary eyed before. It's quite sad I'm crying in front of a laptop. I'm sobbing and sniffling in front of a laptop. Haha. But getting back to the film, it's a very very touching and meaningful story, and even more realistic since it's based on a true story. There are so many reminders and stories yet to be learned. I find it quite inspiring and also thought provoking. The Chinese channel actually broadcasted this movie last Sunday, trying to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Nonetheless, I recommend you to watch it. If only I could find the website for this film, I'll link it.
Just a brief idea about the film - it's mainly about this woman and how she's dealing with cancer. Though she was quite bitter and depressed at first, she learns to go through the remainder of her life living for God and becomes an "angel" to those around her by helping them see more clearly through life's burdens and what not. I can't tell you everything I've learnt through this movie, but I can tell you it's very good. Like the woman w/ cancer said, how can you expect to touch those around you positively when you aren't in tuned w/ Christ? Very profound.
Ahh, my eyes are still red and dry.
Anyhoo, today was a beautiful day. My experience was nothing like Carol Chan's experience at Western :) - it was quite peaceful, despite my exam. I got down to UT an hour early. I didn't want to wait around the exam room, so I just sat outside (on the steps right in front of the Med Sci building) just thinking and thinking - and just sitting there. I enjoyed it. Too bad I was doing some actual studying. It was still relaxing though.
Like Lyds said in my guestbook, I'm Free, I'm Free!!! And Since I'm free for now, I'm going to watch TV. =D
Bai bai!
Will... be... free... in... another... 20... hours....
Actually, no. i'll be free from mandarin, THEN the bad stuff starts to come. Nonetheless, I'd like to get an exam out of the way as fast as possible. Been studying Chinese a lot today. I was studying at Starbucks on Bloor (at Chapters) today, where it was REALLY bright 'cause it was so sunny. After two hours of studying by the window, when I got up, I was really dizzy. Heh. My head is bloated with pinyin right now... not funny.
Today was a lovely day. Not only was the weather beautiful, it was my last day of classes. Yes! I have to admit I'm not too fond of school. As great as Prof. Jack Carr is (for Macroeconomics), I admit I find economics a bore. And why am I still in Commerce? I don't really know. Anyway, getting back to the weather! I enjoyed walking outside today. In fact, I strolled along Bloor TWICE today from Bay to St. George and from St. George to Yonge... I couldn't resist - it was such a warm and sunny day, and I really didn't want to study constantly for endless hours. No shopping though - just pure walking. I enjoyed it. Didn't contemplate on anything. Just walked. (Okay, maybe I was deciding what I should eat since I was hungry, but that's about it!)
What a small world - Matt M just told me he knows JB Lim! What a small world! :) Matt - I signed my own gbook hahaha - only 'cause I had to msg you in some way, so read! Perhaps thru this, I may start my own forum like Lyds' "guestbook" :)
Speaking of Lyds' forum is off to another interesting and wacky topic.... the wonderful topic of procrastination; in the forum, we're debating WHO is the king of procrastination. Check it out, it's hilarious!
Enough blogging, I need sleep.
"Wo zhen bu xi huan wo de zhong wen ke yin wei ke ben li mian de ti mu hen boring. Wo ming tian yao kao shi suo yi wo yao xiao xi le. Wo xi wang wo ming tian kao shi hui hen hao, suo yi wo ke yi kick some butt!"
Ahhhh, practicing for tomorrow ;) Nite!
What a Day...
Not that I've done much today....but it's been full of surprises. For once, I'm not feeling stressed, despite the fact my exam is in two days (for Mandarin). I'm actually quite relaxed and content at this time. Of course, I think sleeping in 'til 11:30 was one of the main reasons why I feel at ease today. Stayed up 'til 3 am last night, helping my mom out with her work. She had to type up a report or something like that and needed my assistance - those of you who know my mom knows her English isn't particularly strong ;) (but hey, she is improving... slightly...) So I had to stay up to help her out, instead of studying for my final.
I guess a pleasant surprise also got me jumpy and happy! I got a guestbook entry! It's not an ordinary entry.... it's one from the one and only JB Lim! :) [Hi JB!!!!] I haven't heard from him since January and it was pleasant to get a message from him. He's in Vancouver, back home. He used to study in Toronto and attended my church. I was really surprised and happy to see a nice guestbook message from him! :)
I'm currently contemplating on how many courses I should take for summer school - I'm tempted to take this full year course (International Economics) that only runs for six weeks (usually full year courses take four months!). Problem is, I'm working full time this summer and the class goes on from 10-12 from Monday to Thursdays. I am told I can do well in this course w/o having to go to class... but still, I'm a bit skeptical. I also want to take VIC120 (Some course in semiotics and communication) since it runs during the night. AHHH. Maybe I should just hog a spot and see what happens.
While I was browsing through magazines yesterday at the gas station and waiting for my dad to finish filling up the tank, I noticed how many teeny bopper girly magazines there are. There's CosmoGirl, VogueGirl, Seventeen, TeenMag, etc. What disgusted me was on the cover of Seventeen, it mentioned one of its articles, "How to Tell Your Mom you had Sex"... I mean, these girls are only... 15, 16? This is pretty sad, I find. :P I mean, these girls reading the magazine have barely gone through puberty... *sigh*. I also saw one of the news headlines on CityPulse about a 14 year old girl in Saskatchewan being charged for forcing other girls to sell sex or something like that. That's pretty upsetting, seeing how innocence is dying away so quickly. Kids grow up too fast these days. I guess I'm a bit more on the conservative side, wanting to have the first kiss at the altar type of girl... ('cause I find that more sentimental and special.. hee hee). I'm also a kid at heart... ;)
A few weeks ago, I remember starting this "Peeve of the Day" section and dedicating it to Waiki :) No, Waiki hasn't bothered me recently, but sitting next to this girl on the subway reminded me of a peeve. SO... here's my peeve of the day: When people sniffle, not a little, but continuously for a long long time... they know they have a cold! They should bring more tissues with them, rather than annoy people (like me!) with their constant sniffling!
Enough contemplating and complaining for now. :P
4.08.2002
... oh yeah, I have a new nickname ;): hollyholz
apparently I was told that "holz" in german means wood..... how funny. hollywood, hollyholz ;)
School....*sigh*
Right now I'm supposed to be studying vigorously for my Chinese final on Thursday. However, I'm quite drowsy and bored so I decided to go online. I'm at Second Cup as we speak, the same one where I was "picked up".... I think I AM anal, as I am always looking around just to see if the freaky dude is around. (He did mention he was a regular) - WHY am I back at this Second Cup then? 'Cause I really like the atmosphere and I need to be near Sen5es... (Sen5es is a really fancy bakery/pastery/resturant place) Today is Nellie's birthday, and since I haven't gotten her a present, I might as well treat her to something. I also need to be away from school.
Yep, so I only have 6 minutes left to use the 'net. Can't believe I'm paying to use the internet but I am really really bored. Frankly, I don't really care to discuss the freedom of speech and the communist government in Chinese at this moment. I'd rather be here, zai na li (mandarin peeps will understand that!), talking and rambling about endless thoughts.
Lyds and I found out another common thing - we both love the Sound of Music! Lyds, so glad your forum is busy again! For awhile, it seemed kinda quiet.
I finally got my stats test back. I didn't do so well, albeit I didn't fail :) *phew* I've come to the realization I'm going to do not so well this year in school. Will explain later, as my internet time is only lited to 3:50 minutes now.
Can't believe 15 minutes passes by so quickly. Time does pass quickly when you don't want it to.... :P
Hao le, wo yao du shu le. Mei you shi jian zuo gong ke le - ru guo wo xian zai bu du shu, wo xing qi si hui FAIL! - it's in pin yin - try to decode! (esp Cathy!!! ;))
The Sound of Music...
On Friday, I was terribly bored from studying, so I decided to buy a magazine. Since Cathy bought a People's Magazine which covered the Oscars night on Wednesday, I decided to do the same, since I didn't really know which to buy. It was a special edition issue, which had two issues in one. The Oscars coverage was all right, but it wasn't that part of the magazine that caught my attention. Somewhere in the last few pages, they had a section on "Where are they now?" - Who's they? They refers to the actors/actresses from the old classic movies from the 60s and 70s, and the movies included my all time favourite - The Sound of Music! So I found out where all the "kids" are doing right now. Apparently, the guy who played Kurt (the younger son), Duane Chase, has a Masters in Archaeology or something... and almost all the daughters have their own little gift collectibles business. It's quite interesting :)
I remember when I was younger, I always wanted to be one of the seven kids, since I was (and still am) an only child. I'd sing to "I am Sixteen going on Seventeen" (though I was really Thirteen going onto... Thirteen? haha) or "So Long, Farewell" in the shower... It still is my all time favourite. In Fifth Grade, at my new elementary school, I joined the musical for The Sound of Music. I was a nun. Whoopee doo. :P My friend got to play Maria though. She IS talented... after all, she DID get into the Claude Watson School of the Arts at Haig in gr. 9....
As for my weekend, I haven't done much - since I have a final on Thursday (for Mandarin), I had to study. But I DID go to Nellie's place tonight and watched her talk on the phone... :)
YAY the Raps win eight straight. Quite... ironic that they're winning so much now that Vince is gone for the season. Or maybe they're just lucky since they're playing the suckier teams from the East. Hee hee ;)
Fobulous...!
I finally took a look at the page I recommended early this morning (look at the 1:19 am entry) - "What Kind of Asian are you?"
I AM CLASSIFIED UNDER THE CATEGORY.... FOBULOUS.
Hee hee. I am NOT classified as a FOB :) hee hee.
What kind of Asian are YOU?
blogger is starting to annoy me - it's not working great these days.
Freedom!
All right, I'm dreaming - yes, I'm done with all my tests, but will start studying like mad as of tomorrow. After all, I do have a final next thursday. Haha.
As I was chatting and surfing, I found this really funky website - "What Kind of Asian are you?" I found that quite... um... interesting? Nah, just wierd, but funny. Check it out :) I wonder how many of you guys are classified as "FOBS" ;)
Today was a so-so day. I screwed up on my Micro test on this ONE question.... worth 22 marks. Stupid Prof. :P Everything after the test was great though. Nellie's dad works at UT, and we have been trying to meet up for lunch for the longest time. I promised him two weeks ago that I would do lunch with him BEFORE the school term was over... so I finally met up with him (and Nellie) today. We went to this Chinese restuarant on Baldwin St. Quite an adventure... (okay I'm exaggerating, but what we heard at the restauarant was quite funny). Since the restaurant (Wah Sing) serves a lot of non-Chinese customers, they have fortune cookies for dessert and stuff. Just for fun, I decided to pop one opened. My fortune read: "Good News Will Come from Afar" (I was hoping I'd hear the question I screwed up on my test today would be taken out of the test or something like that... haha) and had another fortune cookie, in which the second fortune said "You are happy and peaceful" (something like that). All the sudden, Nellie, her dad, and I hear the manager talking on the phone: (in Chinese) "YOU BETTER MAKE SURE YOU GO PEE!" in a loud and rough Chinese voice... Nel, her dad, and I just stared at each other and burst out laughing. So that was supposedly my "good news" that came from afar. Har har.
After lunch, I went back uptown to teach piano - the kids were great today!... except the older one punched me in the cheek a little hard. Unfortunately, she punched the spot where I had a coldsore, so I was in much pain for a while. Boo.
Today was a very long day. I had to go back downtown to do something after piano lessons. When I got to Finch earlier this afternoon (to go teach piano), I saw this man playing the sax at the station. Unlike the lady who usually pounds on her electronic piano, the man was playing mellow tunes. By the time I got back to Finch Station after teaching piano to go downtown, the man was still there playing his tunes. After I finished doing what I had to do, I went back to Finch Station to go church for fellowship - before I got on the bus, I SAW THE MAN THERE AGAIN. He was playing at Finch from 2:30 - 8:30.... oh my. I wonder if he took a break? But I can tell this guy's playing 'cause he enjoys, not for the money or anything. He inspires me.
Fellowship was interesting. Although I was dead tired, I still got something really meaningful out of it. Oftentimes, we go to school, study, and do other things just because we have to. Instead of going thru life with that attitude, the bible study reminded me to do things with more of an upright and positive attitude. This is kinda motivating, which is a good start for my studying thing.
What surprised me today was Waiki's gift. He went back to Kingston (his home) during the Easter weekend. I jokingly asked if he brought anything back for me. He said he did - and said there were easter eggs. I'm not gonna get into the Easter egg conversation. After that conversation, I thought we weren't gonna mention Easter eggs no more - besides, I had forgotten about it since I had two tests this past week. When we were split into groups, Waiki told me he had something for me. All the sudden, he pulls out this BIG grocery bag - I look inside. THERE WERE TWO BIG CONTAINERS FULL OF CADBURY EASTER EGGS. I was like "oh my gosh... I can't finish this!" - I offered the eggs to all the guys - and saw Quang, our counsellor, taking more than a handful. I told him to keep the whole box - since I had another one to eat. But it was quite a surprise and a treat! Thanks Bro :)
So right now, I'm just chatting with friends, and with my cousin on IM! Yes, I have IM 'cause all my US friends have Instant Messenger from AOL, whereas everyone else has ICQ. I have 207 people on my ICQ list, but only 11 on my IM list. Har har. But yeah, I finally nagged my cousin, Michelle, to read my blogger (hi Michie *waves!*). She's from Illinois - hence my frequent visits to the lovely and windy city of Chicago :)
Anyway, getting tired - blog later.
Jon (aka BigGuy): I have yet to read through the webpage you sent me - thorougly, that is...
Happy Children's Day!
I don't know if this is just a Chinese thing or not, but apparently, today is Children's Day. Since it's my last year of youth, I ought to celebrate it by slacking off and not study. ;) Just kidding. But seriously, there's something bright and happy to look forward to!
More on Vivian Lives
I meant to jot this down a while back - but never got to it (hehe typical procrastination)
I found out Vivian from Vivian Lives has the same birthday as I do! Haha... I know, useless fact, but still, I find it kind of interesting to have similar birthdays with people - I have the same birthday as two other people at church alone, with this girl from my mandarin class.... and now, Viv from vivian lives! :o) Okay, I'm cheesy. She likes sushi too. Har har - I love it when her vivcam shows her eating sushi :) ('cause i want some too)
I was wondering -- do you think Vivian Livingston really exists? I mean, sure, she's in 1D and all, but she does have these events for her "admirers" and stuff... It'd be interesting if she really did exist. What do you think?
I should get back to studying. My test is in 14 hours and I barely know what makes a monopsony so special. What's a Nash Equilibrium? BOO. :(
If you're bored - check this page out - it's called "Comet Cursors" - it allows you to have different images for your cursor! Right now, I have the little Woodstock from the "Peanuts". Sad to say, I found cursor images for N'Sync as well as for George W. Bush.... I'm sure people want that! (Esp. HOMEY K with her George W. Bush pictures - re: Email forward)
All righty time to study. :P
Updates
Time for a nice new update. I lied yesterday. I said I was gonna update last night but decided to blog today instead. I was extremely tired after my test yesterday... mentally stressed, I suppose.
After the test yesterday, I had the opportunity to just shop and talk with my co-junior rep buddy (she's the other junior rep on ASUT - let's just call her... All-Star Carol? ;) (it has to do with her campaign slogan)) We walked around Bloor and rested at Second Cup in the Cumberland Terrace (speaking of which, I have a scary story to tell later). It was fun... but she was so eager to get back to Rotman for accounting unlike me.
(BTW: the deal with Carol's alias - I know two Carols - one from Western, and one from UT. The latter Carol didn't know which Carol I was referring to in my earlier blogs, so I need a new alias for her... unless if Carol Chan doesn't mind me calling her Carolalalalala on my blog haha - whaddya think, Carolalalalala?)
I tried to study a bit last night - and I did! But then, I got distracted with my Playstation and decided to play Dance Dance Revolution instead. Har har... (does anyone have games to lend?)
Today started to normal - woke up and taught piano. My student, T, wasn't in a great mood, but we had a fun lesson nonetheless, since we were choosing what songs she wants to play. I enjoy spending time with T 'cause the chats after the piano lessons are always interesting - topic wise. I tried Soya Bean Milk (the Western style...) - I understand why Caucasians sometimes dislike Soya Bean Milk now. It's so different from the Soya Bean Milk (aka "Dau Jeung" in Cantonese) bought from Chinese grocery stores!
I came downtown early so I decided to go back to the Second Cup to study a bit. I always choose the worst places to sit and study since there were two French ladies talking at the speed of light right next to me. As I was trying to study, this guy (middle aged...) next to me starts talking to me - which I didn't really mind. He was telling me he used to go to UT and he was a PhD dude doing research in anthropology. We talked about random subjects (I get into conversations like these with different people all the time at coffee shops - let it be at Tim Hortons or Second Cup, or even the Starbucks Nellie used to work at.) - all the sudden, he asked me if I wanted to see a movie after class - I was dumbfounded and shocked. Remaining calm, I politely declined, sat there (and studied) for another five minutes, and said I had to leave. THAT was freaky. Never in my life has that happened before. GAAAH. But then, he could've been friendly and just wanted to watch.... ahh, I don't know. But that was freaky. I'm still going back there but I just hope the situation won't occur again. If I see that guy again - I'm gonna switch to the Second Cup on Bloor...
I've observed a few wierd things happening recently - would like to get into them NOW, but have to go to class in five minutes. Boo... I'll blab more later. I don't even understand WHY I'm here at UT today - simply for an ONE hour tutorial. Boo.
PS - Lyds, where are you? You need to moderate your 'forum'! Where's the topic of convo?!? :)
4.03.2002
Blah, Blah, Blah...
That is what my accounting prof is doing.... He's been rambling on and on about leases.... and I'm trying very very hard not to fall asleep. Right now, we're on a ten minute break, although I don't know how long MY break will be... Hee hee hee :)
I finally finished my stats test! Yeah! Whether I done well or not is another issue. That means I can blog more tonight! I'm pretty sure all of you are looking forward to a fresh new blog, no? ;)
Lyds'guestbook (aka forum) is really funny.... funnier than her blogs (let's just say her "forum" is updated more than her blogger is!) so if you need entertainment, go there! Feel free to join the form anytime... :) (is that right, Lyds?)
Back to class... boo.
4.02.2002
Wow I haven't Blogged in TWO Days!
This week is crazy and insane - two tests, one oral exam, one assignment, and I can't remember what else. Just as Lyds tells everyone I update frequently, I go on a break. :) Speaking of Lyds, CHECK HER G-BOOK OUT! It's funny - It's more like a forum rather than an ordinary guestbook. I wish I had something like that. Actually, I'd rather leave one of those commenting thingys after each entry rather than a big guestbook which no one signs. :) Hmm, I should start making some controversial and thought-provoking blogs. :)
Yesterday was a bad day - I didn't do well on my oral exam, had a nervous breakdown ('cause I barely started studying for this dreadful statistics test), and had a big headache. To top it off, two of my friends were rather depressed, so that didn't help.
GAAAAAAAAH. Right now, I don't think I can really blog since my mind is drifting to studying (wow, for once!). I should get going... I'll blog tons later... (Lyds: you have 6 more days 'til freedom - I have another month... boooooo)
